PhoneLog.exe DOWNLOAD NOTE: PhoneLogger started as a learning tool and as such I do NOT have a developer's key registered on the web. Therefore when you go to actually run PhoneLog2.exe your PC should tell you that it cannot verify the key and ask if you really want to run the software. That is a very normal security question and I will assure you that I have not added any trap-doors or hidden software to the program. It should be very safe to say "Yes - run this software". As an added check we are publishing an MD5 checksum for each of the .zip files. Any MD5 tool should produce the same checksum. I used the free service at http://onlinemd5.com/ to get my checksums. It's probably one of the easiest to use that I've seen. INSTALLATION NOTES: There are 2 versions of PhoneLogger available: 32 Bit Windows (Windows XP forward) 64 Bit Windows (Windows7 forward) File PL32.zip contains the 32 bit version and all support files. File PL64.zip contains the 64 bit version and all support files. Each .zip file contains the executable file, various dll and bpl support files, and a pdf PLUM.pdf (PhoneLogger User Manual) and this ReadMe-FIRST file. Download the .zip file appropriate for you operating system. Extract the folder in the .zip file. For ease of use and to locate text and data files generated during operation of PhoneLog.exe we strongly suggest the final folder location be at the root of your C: drive. This is NOT mandatory for operation of the program, but will make it much easier to access exported database files or review temporary information and print-preview files from outside the program. Since we do not modify your system Registry it is necessary that all the support files, including the PLUM.pdf file are in the same folder as the executable. The program will fail to run if you put the .exe file in a folder by itself. Once you have extracted the folder navigate to the folder and run PLConfig.exe. This will walk you through a short configuration program where you may either accept the default items (tab through each item to take the default) or enter some choices. Once you have made a .cfg file it's time to open up PhoneLog2.exe. Double-click PhoneLog.exe to start the program. You can access the manual either directly (double-click PLUM.pdf and if you have Adobe or another pdf reader installed it will open) or from the PhoneLog.exe About menu. The Manual Table of Contents is active and you may click any heading to jump to that entry. We suggest copying a Shortcut to your desktop. At this point we DO NOT use an installer so the program does NOT register in your REG files. It will not appear in Windows Control Panel or be able to be removed via the control panel. Since this is a simple run-in-place program making a copy (rather than a shortcut) on the desktop will lead to problems. The main program and all the support programs need to be in the same directory/folder. To remove the program simply delete the folder and associated files. You may add a shortcut to your Start menu through Window's Explorer, but it will not be added automatically. Eventually this may change, but right now this is a very non-intrusive program. It should not affect the Registry and does not access anything beyond its own files. Upon request there is a file PLSRC.zip that contains the source code for PhoneLogger. It includes the source code for both PhoneLog.exe and PLConfig.exe but not the 3rd party support files. If you will drop me a note at the address below I'll be happy to provide you with the human-readable, commented source code. Questions, comments, and requests for the source code should go to: lrutter@tecxl.com or may be directed through Tecxl on Facebook or at Tecxl.com Updates and changes will be announced on our Facebook page (search for Tecxl on Facebook) or on the front page of Tecxl.com. The current version for PhoneLogger is V2.0.0 and the executable file name is now PhoneLog2.exe. There have been significant upgrades to the program but it still contains some code that will be modified in the future to make it more efficient. Version 2.0.0 has added: Hash-tag for data integrity check on all lines. The ability to edit an entry within the program. Flags to show Origianl (O); Edited (E); or corrupted (X) entries. Corrupted is any entry that has been modified in any other editor. A start-up waning that no database is present (this should only appear the first time you start PhoneLogger). There are some internal fields in the database for future enhancements. If you had used the original PhoneLogger (Version 1.x.x) those databases will not longer be accessable with PhoneLog2.exe. Since we do not believe there are any such databases out there we have not distributed a conversion program. If you have been using PhoneLogger please contact me and we will provide a small database conversion program. Thanks, Lex Rutter Tecxl
